Welcome back

Dear Reader,

As the leaves fall, a new book rises. This is a short edition of my newsletter, as I'll be back in your inbox on Wednesday, November 26th, celebrating the release of Book Three!

In this edition, you’ll find progress updates on Book Four, and my updated fall/winter events schedule (3 new events added).

Short and sweet, like Sabrina Carpenter's world tour. Let's get into it!

Your complimentary short story for being an insider

As I promised each of you when you signed up (in the event you didn't receive the download link after your confirmation, here's your BookFunnel gateway to the free short story, The Last Honor of Iosefa Fatu.

There's no better time to read this than right now. This is the segue between the first and second novels in my The Fates of Aten series. It's not a deal breaker if you choose to read it first, but it will make more sense after reading Book I.

Update #1: The Call of the Silver Spire (Book IV)

Book IV is just motoring along. As of the writing of this newsletter (0505 hrs on October 31st), I'm currently 351 pages, and ~109k words into its first draft. This puts me just at the tail end of Chapter 16/22.

Because I write longer chapters (averaging 18-23 per), this should put Book IV somewhere around the length of The Last Cry of Innocence (Book II). I'm planning to have the draft complete by the time the New Year rolls around (but it may be the end of November/mid December at the pace I've been writing lately).

Once it's complete, I'll start into the first draft of Book V...yes, the end. It will be the end of Alira's story; though to get there, I have to get through Book IV first. The end is...I'll leave it there. But I don't want to write it–decide for yourself the connotation.

Update #2: Fall/Winter Events Schedule

New events have been added since the last edition!

If you're wondering where to find me this fall, it seems I'll be all over the Edmonton, AB area. So, if you're local, or feel like making the day trip to the city, here's where you'll find me this Fall/Winter:

  • Words in the Park - Sherwood Park, AB - Nov. 1st, 1000-1600
  • Military History Living Library - Morinville, AB - Nov. 5th, Times TBD
  • MFRC Christmas Market - Lancaster Park, AB - Nov. 22nd, 1400-1700
  • Gibbons Christmas Market - Gibbons, AB - Nov. 23rd, 1000-1500 *

It's a pretty busy fall/winter schedule. I'll be ready for a break come December 15th.

*First time Book III will be on physical sale (3 days early)

There's more exciting news to come

But for now, that's all I have for you for this newsletter and my November updates. I still have the release of The Serpent and the Shattered Sword coming on November 26th - and I'll be in your inbox again; so I didn't want to inundate you with things here.

If you're in the area, stop by one of my fall/winter events and say hello. I'd love to meet you. In the event we've already met once before, I'd love to see you again.

Until next time, my friend. Happy reading,

Nick "N.A." Betts
